Sanctions
Sanctions have been, and are being, harmfully imposed. Instead of using sanctions to curb abuses of power and prevent wars from being waged by means of international economic pressure, sanctions are imposed as a form of punishment on countries that have run afoul of the U.S. political establishment. The U.S. has established a pattern of bullying other nations into going supporting our interest, even at the U.N., by using threats of various kinds. Sanctions have killed tens of thousands of people when they cannot get needed medications, food, or supplies to repair vital infrastructure such as water treatment facilities. During the 1990’s, sanctions killed 500,000 Iraqi children in this way. The United States uses economic and financial sanctions more than any other nation. Currently, U.S. sanctions are imposed against more than two dozen nations and foreign entities.
