The Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on Washington Digital Gathering is just 2 days away and momentum is growing! United for Peace & Justice is proud to be among the more than 200 partner organizations across the country, including unions, religious denominations, and social and environmental justice organizations working to ensure that our message is heard far and wide: Somebody’s been hurting our people, and it’s gone on for far too long. And WE WON’T BE SILENT ANYMORE.

Check out our new June 20 video here and spread the word far and wide.

We will hear from service workers from the Midwest forced to work through the pandemic, a coal miner from Appalachia, mothers who have lost children due to lack of health care, residents of Cancer Alley in Louisiana, and an Apache elder who is petitioning the federal government to stop a mining company from destroying their sacred site in Arizona.

And they’ll be introduced by actors and activists including Erika Alexander, Danny Glover, Wanda Sykes, Jane Fonda, former Vice President Al Gore, David Oyelowo, and Debra Messing.

The event will be broadcast on Saturday June 20, 2020 at 7 am PT/10am ET and 3 pm PT/6pm ET and Sunday June 21, 2020 at 3 pm PT/6 pm ET at www.june2020.org. It will be open captioned and interpreted in Spanish and ASL. There will also be a dial-in option for those without internet access.

From across this nation people are rising up and joining together to call for transformative change. Join us and ask your elected officials to do the same.

Want to do more this Juneteenth weekend?

Juneteenth commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, which had become official on January 1, 1863.

The Movement for Black Lives has declared: “This Juneteenth is a rare moment for our communities to proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter, and that we won’t tolerate anything less than justice for all our people.” Events are planned in Washington, DC and around the country.  Click here to find out how you can get involved.

Forward together, not one step back!
