March to Stop the Wars
Saturday, March 20th 2010 12:00
People from all over Southern California and surrounding states are organizing to converge on Los Angeles on Saturday, March 20, 12 noon, Hollywood and Vine. That day, there will also be a national march on Washington, D.C., and a regional action in San Francisco. We will march together to say “No Colonial-type Wars and Occupations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine!" We will march together to say "Reparations for the people of Haiti!” Instead of war and occupation, we will demand funds so that every person can have a job, free and universal health care, decent schools, and affordable housing.

March 20 is the seventh anniversary of the criminal war of aggression launched by Bush and Cheney against Iraq. One million or more Iraqis have died. Tens of thousands of U.S. troops have lost their lives or been maimed, and continue to suffer a whole host of enduring problems from this terrible war. Now, the Obama administration has continued the war and escalated the war on Afghanistan.

This is the time for united action. The slogans on banners may differ, but all those who carry them should be marching shoulder to shoulder.

Chicago, Illinois

Protest Against the Escalation of War in Afghanistan!
Wednesday, December 2nd 2009 5 PM
The U.S. war in Afghanistan is over 8 years old and a certified disaster for Afghani civilians and Western troops alike. Despite an anti-war majority in the United States, the Obama administration is now getting set to send tens of thousands more troops and urging already reluctant allies to do the same.

Besides causing more death and destruction, this surge will only reinforce Afghanis’ legitimate hatred of the decades of foreign domination that their country has endured. Billions that might have gone for healthcare, jobs, education and housing both in the U.S. and Afghanistan will once again be sucked into the military budget vortex, with Obama escalating the record military spending of the previous administration.

Like another foreign occupation about a half century ago in Vietnam, a corrupt local government awash in the drugs trade will do the bidding not of its own people, but of a foreign government thousands of miles away.

We call on all Chicago area people to join in an Emergency Response Protest on the day after President Obama announces the troop surge into Afghanistan with the demands:

Bring all the troops home now!
Funding for human needs, not war!

5 PM – Wednesday, December 2nd
Corner of Dearborn and Adams Streets, Chicago

Wednesday, December 2nd 2009 5 PM
CALL FOR AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO THE U.S. SURGE IN AFGHANISTAN

The U.S. war in Afghanistan is over 8 years old and has caused nearly 1000 U.S. soldier deaths and tens of thousands of Afghan civilian lives. Despite an anti-war majority in the United States, the Obama administration is said to be announcing a troop surge of tens of thousands more soldiers.

We call on all Hoosiers who disagree with the surge to join in an Emergency Response Protest on the day after President Obama announces the troop surge into Afghanistan with the demands:

Bring all the troops home now!
Funding for human needs, not war!

MAKE NOISE, NOT WAR!
Bring family, friends, signs and noisemakers as we get rowdy in the streets to voice our opposition.

Wichita, Kansas

RSVP  • Speak Out Against the Escalation of War
Wednesday, December 2nd 2009 4:45 pm
EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PLAN FOR AFGHANISTAN

We all hoped that President Obama would resist the pressures from his generals not to send more troops to Afghanistan. Recently, Matthew Hoh, a former Marine and later a senior US official in Afghanistan, resigned in protest of the Afghan war. US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, urged President Obama not to send more troops to Afghanistan, saying there is no military solution to the conflict.

However, all accounts are that on Tuesday, December 1st, President Obama will announce his decision to send 34,000 more troops to Afghanistan. We have some signs, but feel free to bring your own; No More War - Bring The Troops Home. Jobs not War, Books not Bombs, Health Care Not War!

Boston, Massachusetts

RSVP  • Stop the Afghanistan Escalation
Wednesday, December 2nd 2009 5pm
President Obama is considering sending more American troops to fight in Afghanistan.

But this war isn’t making Americans safer. It is not bringing development, democracy, security, or women’s rights to Afghanistan. It is killing Afghan civilians and U.S./NATO troops. It is stealing badly needed funds from housing, jobs, health care, and climate protection.

If Pres. Obama announces an escalation, the demonstration will take place at 5pm on Wednesday, December 2.

Assemble at Boston Common from 5-7 pm for a moving picket line. Meet at the Brewer Fountain, near Park Street Station. Bring banners, signs, costumes, musical instruments, pots and pans. There will be speakers from Veterans for Peace and Military Families Speak Out, and an Afghan-American woman. Musician Simon Rios, just back from his appearance at the School of the Americas Protest at Ft. Benning, GA, will perform anti-war songs.

Spokane, Washington

RSVP  • No More Troops to Afghanistan
Wednesday, December 2nd 2009 5:00 pm
Sending more troops to Afghanistan would spend money we need in our own communities for healthcare, education, and food programs that are more critical than ever. Sending more troops will result in more deaths of soldiers and civilians, and it will fuel Taliban recruiting. And, this course of action hurts Afghan women and children—when a woman’s family loses a breadwinner as a casualty of war but she can’t work, they’re pushed further into poverty. President Obama should move US troops out of Afghanistan without first building them up. We need to use other, non-military tools in our toolbox to stabilize Afghanistan and reduce poverty and desperation: economic development, support for Afghan women's organizations, humanitarian aid, and engagement with all regional players in serious diplomacy. Senator Cantwell is co-sponsoring the Afghan Women Empowerment Act, which is a good example of the kind of action the US should take.

11:00 AM – Gather at Lisa Link Peace Park. (We need volunteers who are dressed in black with black hoods or caps who are willing to be part of March of the Dead. We need volunteers to carry coffins.)

We will have a somber March of the Dead to the Capitol Square where we will remember and mourn the dead by reading their stories. We will deliver our demands to Senator Kohl’s office and Congresswoman Baldwin’s office, calling on our legislators to refuse to fund the escalation.
